What is the Soothe Lab Cooling Weighted Blanket?
The cooling weighted blanket leverages the same weighted technology as our original weighted blanket, but adds a new bamboo viscose technical fabrics to keep you comfortable during use.
The outer layer of the weighted blanket is built with 100% bamboo viscose technical fabric that is breathable and moisture wicking, keeping you comfortable when sleeping or relaxing with it. The weighted interior helps to calm the nervous system by engaging key relaxation pressure points, stimulating points on the body linked to improved sleep, mood, and relaxation. The weighted inner uses glass beads for weight.
Whether you're a hot sleeper or you live in a warmer climate, our cooling weighted blanket is made for you.
What are the materials used for the weighted blanket and duvet cover?
The weighted blanket is engineered with 7 layers:
- Outer layers (2): 100% bamboo viscose
- Inner layers (2): 60 gsm taffeta
- Inner fillings (2): 200 gsm polyester
- Beads: Premium micro glass beads
Our advanced precision stitching, creates 5" x 5" pockets that are tightly quilted. This allows the weighted blanket to contour your body and prevent the glass beads from shifting, while retaining the softness of the bamboo viscose fabric.
The duvet covers are made from 100% bamboo viscose. We also used metal hidden zippers to ensure the zipper doesn't touch your skin.
How is the duvet cover and weighted blanket held together?
The duvet cover has 12 ties that connect it to the inner weighted blanket. The duvet cover is sold separately from the weighted blanket.
What is the science behind weighted blankets?
Weighted blankets have been used in niche medical communities for many years. But only recently have the measurable health benefits for all started to emerge in new scientific studies. To put it simply, the findings have been amazing: weighted blankets have been shown to help people fall asleep faster and sleep more deeply. Without a prescription, therapeutic training, or changes in their routine.
What is DTPS?
Soothe Lab Weighted Blankets uses the power of DTPS (Deep Touch Pressure Stimulation), a well regarded therapeutic method that stimulates pressure points on the body linked to improved sleep, mood, and relaxation.
DTPS has been shown to increase serotonin and melatonin, the hormones responsible for calming relaxation, while decreasing cortisol, the hormone responsible for stress. This natural, physiological approach decreases heart rate, blood pressure, and more, improving mood and promoting restful sleep and relaxation.
What is Serotonin & Melatonin
Researchers have found that the body’s serotonin and melatonin levels increase upon certain pressure triggers on the body. The release of serotonin and melatonin can help regulate mood and provide a relaxing and calming effect.
The Soothe Lab Weighted Blanket aims to utilize DTPS to release serotonin and melatonin, reduce movement while asleep, and provide an overall calming effect to help achieve a deeper and better night’s sleep. The pressure of the blanket gives the feeling of being hugged or swaddled and a sense of warmth and safety.
Who can benefit from weighted blankets?
Adults and children who suffer from:
- Sleep Disorder/Insomnia
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
- Nervous System Disorders
- Asperger/Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Restless Leg Syndrome
Which weight selection is right for me?
Our weighted blankets are engineered to meet all body types. Weighted blankets should be around 10% of your body weight, so we recommend:
- 15 lbs for (110-170 lbs)
- 20 lbs for (170-240 lbs)
If you are in between sizes, we recommend selecting the lower of the two weights. Our weighted blanket is designed to make you feel embraced.
Why choose bamboo viscose?
Bamboo is an incredibly sustainable source (it can grow up to 4 feet in 24 hours!). The Bamboo fibre is twice as soft as cotton with a silky cashmere touch. Bamboo is also naturally antibacterial which helps to protect against skin irritation and allergies.
The fabric is extremely breathable due to the bamboo viscose. The structure also works as a natural insulator keeping you cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. Due to the absorbent properties of Bamboo the fabric wicks moisture and odor from the body keeping you dry and comfortable.
How do I use the weighted blanket?
You may use your weighted blanket in a multitude of ways - there is no right way to sleep underneath the blanket. Additionally, the weighted blanket is meant to be a personal grounding experience so it was designed and sized for individual use and not a bed size.
We do not recommend trying to share with a partner because each blanket is based on the user’s body weight (~10%) and it must be evenly distributed over that one person to be effective. Sharing can change the efficacy of the weighted blanket.
Who can use the weighted blanket?
If you are concerned with the someone's ability to remove the blanket on their own without assistance, we do not recommend letting them using the blanket without supervision and putting it away and out of reach when you are not home.
The weighted blanket should not be used by children under three years old or by any individual or pet that weigh less than 50 lbs due to potential suffocation and choking hazard.
How do I wash my weighted blanket?
Both our weighted blanket and duvet covers are machine washable in cold water. You can also tumble dry on low heat. Made of high-quality pre-shrunk bamboo viscose fabric also dries quickly after wash unlike cotton or fleece.
We recommend washing the weighted blankets by hand due to the weight of the blanket. However, if your machine is powerful enough to handle 15 lbs to 20 lbs, then machine washable is ok.
